Youth Calisthenics
Calisthenics is a way to get fit that’s gaining momentum thanks to social media videos of people showing off moves such as the flagpole or the planchet push-up where practitioners balance their bodyweight in mid-air. It shows serious strength and it’s a great way to get fit.
What is Youth Calisthenics?
Youth Calisthenics is our accessible class that encourages young people to learn the sport; it’s done in a supportive environment so that everyone can learn how to make the most of their bodyweight workout in an accessible way. When people think of workouts, often they think of equipment, but these classes are designed to show everyone that they can improve their balance, flexibility and strength with a series of progressively more challenging bodyweight exercises.
How do I get Started with Youth Calisthenics?
Our classes are designed to welcome everyone, so they’re a good place to start, and eager beginners will find themselves doing exercises they might already be familiar with such as pull-ups, press-ups and dips. Doing these moves slowly and in a controlled manner is a great foundation for the more difficult moves that come next.
How Fit/Strong do I Need to be to Start Youth Calisthenics?
It’s great when people start with a good level of fitness, but our classes aim to help participants get fit regardless of their starting level. This attitude works especially well in Calisthenics because there are easier variations of all the headline-grabbing moves. Regardless of what exercises participants are working towards, there are easier and accessible variations to practise and build skills until ready and every workout will help you build your strength and stamina.
What do I need to bring to Youth Calisthenics Sessions?
Youth Calisthenics is all about bodyweight exercises, so naturally it’s light on equipment. However, that’s not to say the classes aren’t challenging, so it’s a good idea to come prepared. Participants should bring loose-fitting clothing so they can keep light on their feet, and also water so that they don’t get dehydrated during the session.
We also offer adult calisthenics classes.
